Knowledge of archeology and history seemed limited to Ottoman empire. A lot of history happened before the Ottoman empire, and I would have appreciated a more balanced presentation.

Hasan was very clear in what and when we were going to do things. I liked his no-nonsense attitude to being on time. And everybody was.He was flexible about time based on what we were going to see and what else was on the schedule.

Mahmutt was fabulous. I have never seen such driving skills in my life. I sat up front quite a bit and was entertained by watching his skill. He was also quite a drummer at the Turkish night!

No, I felt prepared. I found the Lonely Planet guide immensely helpful outside of Istanbul. I also appreciated the recommended reading; Mango's biography on Ataturk, Birds Without Wings and Portrait of a Turkish Family introduced me to the Turkish culture and gave me some insight on the population exchange, Turkey's role in WWI and how the charismatic leadership of Ataturk created a modern Turkey.

It was an outstanding tour from all aspects. I wish I had read more Turkish History before we left, as there was so much to take in and learn. It would be helpful if your pre-tour handbook had more suggested Turkish history and culture books to read.

Turkey is a spectacular country. We especially enjoyed seeing the countryside and the out-of-the-way places. Having Ayse as our guide brought things alive for us.
