Tell us about your guide's leadership skills

Ayse was very clear in her directions and explanations and helped everyone with their concerns from the beginning to the end. Because she was born and raised in Turkey she had a real passion for her country and passed that along to us. She was very warm hearted and made us feel comfortable right away. I appreciated her knowledge and she made everything very understandable and easy to remember. I liked how she encouraged us to learn the language and just jump in and enjoy her country.

Leslie in Castro Valley, CA, 2008

Selcuk was the very best tour guide we have had with your tours. I don't say this easily because every guide we have experienced has been extraordinary! He was our walking encyclopedia of ancient history and then all the aspects of Turkey we could ask. He seemed to enjoy us and the trip as much as we enjoyed him!

Mark in Huntington Mills, PA, 2008

Selcuk couldn't have been better as a leader. Responses to questions about differences among sects of Islam could have been more nuanced, e.g. the difference between Shia and Sunni are much richer than the response that the Shia follow Ali.

Penny in Tacoma, WA, 2008

Selcuk is incredible!! His planning and organizational skills are exceptional. His knowledge of history, political events, current events, Turkish culture, etc. were amazing and he had a great way of making history come alive. Selcuk has a great sense of humor and is able to make everyone feel comfortable and part of the group. We can't imagine a finer tour guide!!

Susie in Richmond, VA, 2008

I would go on any tour led by Selcuk.

Jackie in Tacoma, WA, 2008

We thought Selcuk was wonderful. He went out of his way to meet any of our request or to give help anyone needed. He was very knowledgeable and either could answer our questions or found someone who could. We felt he was a great aset to our trip

Michael in Owego, NY, 2008

Selcuk is an outstanding guide -- the excellent people skills, very knowledgeable on a variety of topics, quite accessible for questions, discussion -- sense of humor, personable -- top notch in every respect!

Raymond in Federal Way, WA, 2008

Selcuk was excellent - Seemingly everywhere well connected. With us, he was always very clear with directions and times and showed a sense of humor. He seemed to know what made us tick as well as what made his countrymen tick - the ideal kind of guy to bring us together.

Douglas in Kalamazoo, MI, 2008

Selcuk was the perfect tour guide- very knowledgeable about the history of the places we visited as well as current world events. He was friendly, very accessible to our group, and used his connections to make our experience memorable.

Patrick in Kalamazoo, MI, 2008

Please see the final comments below. Selcuk has some great ideas for Turkey tours. I would hope these might be considered; the Black Sea and eastern Turkey would be really interesting to explore, and the sailing trip down the western coast of Turkey sounds idyllic.

Lynn in Napa, CA, 2008

Ayse is a well educated young woman who is passionate about her country and made us appreciate and understand what an amazing place Turkey is. She is a very special person who was equally respectful and accommodating to everyone's needs on our tour.

Jessie in Langley, BC, 2008

Ayse was awesome! She was very well prepared for each day, and was quickly able to adapt our travel plans for circumstances beyond her control. She gave very clear instructions, gave informative talks on various subjects relating to Turkey, and was very patient and friendly to the tour members.

Laura in Chilliwack, BC, 2008

Ayse is a perfect guide on this tour- she understands current politics of Turkey and Europe, and she also understands enough about us Westerners to put local customs and current events into context for us. She ran the tour extremely well - she repeated the day's agenda and important meeting times often, and that was very much appreciated by us since the days can run together on a busy tour like this one. She adjusted the agenda on a couple of days to accomodate people who weren't feeling well, and still got us around in good time. I would say she had just the right balance of leadership and sensitivity to lead the tour.

Helen in Cincinnati, OH, 2008

I appreciated having someone from the country leading the tour. Ayse provided much more insight into the history, culture, and contemporary issues than the American guides for my other two tours.

Bernie in Vancouver, WA, 2008

I cannot adequately express in words how fantastic and helpful Ayse was. She is a very intelligent, helpful, caring and social lady. Her knowledge of the country and other topics is truly amazing. There was not one question asked that she did not know and in a few situations that came up on our tour she handled them with grace and patience. You have a truly fantastic guide in her.

Joy in St Simon's Island, GA, 2008

Ayse was perfect as I said before, she made the whole trip worth it.

Jean in Marietta, GA, 2008

Even better than outstanding. I'm of course talking about Selcuk.

Mark in Redwood City, CA, 2008

Selcuk, was friendly to everyone on the tour he did his best when people were having problems, either health or hearing I feel he could have been more thorough in some explanations of customs and current issues in Turkey

Vincent in Springfield, OR, 2008

I was quite impressed with Selcuk in general and his williness to answer all questions seeking more info for us when he wasn't sure about something-which wasn't often. He seemed quite well connected to local people and really enjoyed interaction with Turks which he arranged. Excellent English, too.

Barbara in Eugene, OR, 2008

he was as good as any encyclopedia, he was great

James in Redmond, OR, 2008

Selcuk was truly outstanding. He was very knowledgeable, very well organized, exceptionally entertaining and friendly. He provided so many little extra touches, such as summarizing the latest newspaper articles as we were travelling. We appreciate the pride he feels in his country, and our trip will always be very special because of having Selcuk as our tour guide.

Janice in RR1 Lone Butte, BC, 2008

Our guide was the best. He was funny and so well informed about his country and history in general. He made every effort to accommodate each person. It showed that he loved his job and his country.

John in Boise, ID, 2008

Selcuk was an exceptional guide. He has all the necessary tools, has a great sense of humor and is very well versed on Turkey's history. It was always apparent that he loves his country I would go on any tour if I learned Selcuk was to be the guide!

Arnon in San Francisco, CA, 2008

Appreciated Selcuk's knowledge about the history and the historic cultures of Turkey. He was very accessible, mingled with the entire group and answered our questions or got the answers. Very educational! He suggested the local foods to try, which contributed to a memorable experience of local cuisine.

Anthony Merkins,2008

Selcuk was an extremely knowledgeable guide with a seemingly vast grasp of many different issues both inside and surrounding Turkey.

David in Santa Clara, CA, 2008

Good

Cesar in La Habra, CA, 2008

Ayse was well informed with every aspect of Turkish culture, including local customs and national movements. I felt that my time spend with her was invaluable; she is a true teacher who only enhanced the progress of our trip every step of the way. I would definitely like to have someone like Ayse along for every Turkish trip I take.

Douglas in La Habra, CA, 2008

Ayse was super and alot of fun. She is very knowledgeable and her current events from the paper each day was interesting.

Leslie Boomerant,2008

Selcuk was friendly, fun and knowledgeable. He provided suggestions to those who wanted to do their own exploring and managed the tour well. He both educated and entertained the group about history, geography, customs and food.

Lynn in The Woodlands, TX, 2008

Selcuk was a real gem of a guide. Technically correct from the outset, he was able from the beginning to elicit humor from the group. As we all became better acquainted, Selcuk's natural manner enabled him to keep us moving, occupied, and entertained. He was sensitive to personal needs as they arose. It seemed to me that each of us came quickly to accept Selcuk as a personal friend; it takes a person with exceptional qualities to foster such a reaction within a group of strangers in such a short time. I have nothing but the highest opinion of Selcuk as a guide, but more, as a pleasant, highly social, and caring person.

Jonathan in Southwest Harbor, ME, 2008

A great deal of this was due to Selcuk. He had the knack for leading us with a gentle hand; suggesting, giving the details . When we first started the tour, I thought is was kind of loose from an instruction standpoint; also detailed about when and where to meet. But, we all got to the right location at the right time! He treated us like intelligent adults!

Loraine in Kalispell, MT, 2008

Selcuk was a fantastic guide. His quick wit and excellent sense of humor were a delight to all of us. Not a day went by when he didn't have us laughing and learning at the same time. His network of friends and his ability to think on his feet were remarkable, as evidenced by our visit to the country primary school. It seemed like we made friends all along our route because of the people he already knew or met along the way.

Christopher in Kalispell, MT, 2008

There is nothing we can add to Selcuk's expertise, desire to make us all Turks, and constant sense of humor.

Robert in LaCanada, CA, 2008

Excellent. Selcuk is a gem. He has innate leadership and management skills. I cannot believe how well this young man communicated, made decisions and was always full of energy. He used humor (appropriately) and a very down-to-earth style to keep us working as a group.

William in Pacific Grove, CA, 2008

The guide, Selcuk, was just outstanding in every respect. I was extremely impressed with not only his knowledge of the history and culture of his own country, but his understanding of other cultures and his grasp of the political context of history and culture. In addition, Selcuk had exceptional English language skills, including American idioms, and delivered his information with warmth, humor and sensitivity. Finally, Selcuk was so thoroughly personable that he became essentially a friend to all of us in the tour group.

Lee in San Diego, CA, 2008

Selcuk was a wonderful guide who gave us a window into his beloved Turkey. He arranged for many special experiences and always had a sense of humor. There are a few people left in Turkey that he doesn't know, but not many. Thanks, Selcuk, for making so many good memories!

Leslie in Decatur, GA, 2008

We could not have had a better guide. Selcuk's knowledge is amazing, his sense of humor great and his attention to every detail made the trip a delight. I cannot think of any way to improve.

Louis in College Station, TX, 2008

Ayse was a marvelous guide and gracious person. She managed to accommodate a fairly diverse group of people and did it with respectful humor. Her knowledge of history, art, and cultural practices was excellent. I especially valued how Ayse connected history along a time-line and across locations. She was well spoken while teaching us about her country and orienting us to the activities of the day.

Paul in Portland, OR, 2008

Ayse was an excellent tour guide!! She did a great job of orienting us to each location. She was very knowlegeable about Turkish politics, religion, and culture. She was an excellent translator which gave us great insight as to what the locals had to say and I never had a problem understanding her english or her intent. She loves her country very much but also has a sense of humor about it when appropriate.

Mark in Groves, TX, 2008

Ayse was always punctual, dependable and cheerful. She always looked after our welfare and interests. Enjoyed her sense of humor. She kept us abreast of the country's current events that were interesting.

Scott in Honolulu, HI, 2008

All supurlative skills

Archibald in Bellevue, WA, 2008

Hasan's knowledge of history and current events were outstanding. I think as the tour progressed he had a better feel for his group and his orientations improved significantly. I think he would benefit at some point and time to visit the US and gain perspective.

Raymond in Portland, OR, 2008

The fact that Hasan is a native of Turkey and is very comfortable sharing his experiences as a Turk was very important to me as I try to understand their politics and culture.

Joseph Belinard,2008

Selcuk's lived up to his excellent reputation.

Henry in Berkeley, CA, 2008

I have never had a tour guide as good as Selcuk. The combination of his organizational skills, problem solving, knowledge of all things Turkish old and new, teaching skills, communication skills and sense of humor are outstanding. He has friends, good friends and very good friends everywhere and he uses them to make our journey much more enjoyable.

Trevor in Berkeley, CA, 2008

Selcuk was an excellent guide in every way. He was very knowledgable, patient in answering our questions, open to suggestions, always available, and able to adjust to any situation. He has a great love for his country and its people. My husband and I feel very priviledged to have been on a tour with him. We are both seasoned travellers and have been to many countries. Turkey is on the top of the list.

Smith in Shelton, CT, 2008

Selcuk is an amazing tour guide and person. He is so well educated and has a wonderful way of communicating. He has so many close connections to the people in the villages and is a very caring person. He taught us so much and in such a fun way. Selcuk is also very creative and a great problem solver!

Katty in Napa, CA, 2008

Selcuk, was our extraordinary guide who was a joy to be with and to learn from his vast knowledge of history and customs. He was definitely a high point in the tour.

Charles in Walnut Creek, CA, 2008

Selcuk was a great leader. He had surprises for us, kept our interest piqued, kept us entertained with a playful sense of humor. was very funny, caring and gave great perspectives of the history of Turkey, culture debunked a lot of myths and i felt we had a more intimate experience with the people of Turkey due to his connections. It seemed that the locals adored him and wanted to accommodate his to our benefit. He treated all of us with respect and tried hard to answer all of our questions and since our group was a mature audience we had a lot.

William in Bellevue, WA, 2008

This trip would not have been the same without Selcuk. His knowledge of the historical, cultural and political aspects of the tour was vast, as was his connection to many of the people we met along our tour. We would not have had the same experiences with someone who did not have the same contacts. I think he did an outstanding job overall.

Walden in Colville, WA, 2008

Our guide was great and very knowledgable in every stop and explained to the group before what we were seeing before we entered.

Joan in Maple Valley, WA, 2008

Hasan our guide was amazing. He was energetic, informed, helpful, funny and patient. He arranged "special" things for us like lunch at a house in Capadocia and a school visit that were special. He would read us the paper each day on the bus, discuss political issues, answer any questions. His background in archeology made him extremely knowledgagle .

Margareth in Delmar, NY, 2008

I think our guide was terrific in every way.

Patrick in Maple Valley, WA, 2008

Selcuk is great. His enthusiasm spread throughout the group. Everyone was excited ready to go before the planned time.

His delightful character will always be remembered for making this tour a most memorable experience.

Khrishna in Puyallup, WA, 2007

Selcuk read his group well and tailored his info to us.

Selcuk was warm, humourous, up to date and had an amazing grasp of history. A real professional and really made the trip.

John in Tigard, OR, 2007

Selcuk was amazing - he knew eveything. He could answer any question anyone asked) and was always available for us. He was an excellent orator and gave wonderful intros to our stops. He would read us the highlights from Turkish newspapers every morning on the bus (and elaborate if need be on the issue). He was extremely interesting. Please make another Turkey tour so I can travel with him again!!

Susie Nebranda,2007

Selcuk was a big part of making the trip a success. Every day went smoothly.

Paul Nebranda,2007

I think Ayse is an excellent guide. She added extra things that were of interest too. I would not have left anything out, just add a little down time too. Ayse seemed always cheerful and she knows so much and shares it gladly. She is very good with people.

Ayse is the most inspiring women I've ever met! Charming, brilliant, positive, well-organized. Will make a great Turkish Minister of Tourism or diplomat someday!

Jessie in Olympia, WA, 2007

Ayse was amazing! Her knowledge of the culture, history, and people where unbelievable! She gave a lot of great personal insights that made the experience even more memorable.

Anna in Dundee, OR, 2007

Ayse was always open to comments and had a good sense of humor. After the trip, it was like a death, we missed her. She answered all our questions and then she was gone and we still had questions with nobody to ask. Her leadership was exceptional!

Sid in Duluth, MN, 2007

Ayse was amazing! Her ability to manage details and take care of us at the same time was very impressive.

Maria in Chevy Chase, MD, 2007

Ayse did an excellent job. She allowed us flexibility while keeping everyone on schedule w/o making anyone feel bad. Overall I thought she was great.

Randy in La Verne, CA, 2007

Hasan was very professional on his leadership abilities.

Thomas in Bellingham, WA, 2007

Our leader, Hasan, knew his stuff and kept the tour running smoothly, but did not always seem to be enjoying leading the tour.

Douglas in Anacortes, WA, 2007

Hasan is a born leader. I would have followed him anywhere and "loved it." His love of Turkey was contagious and his knowledge incredible.Hasan displayed a great sense of humor and command of the English language. He is the absolute best tour guide!

Riley Welan,2007

demonstrated a great balance between his explantions and giving us free time..very open to answering any and all questions

Tom in Franklin, WI, 2007

Hasan knew all of us well and our needs.he also allowed us to meet very special people who he knew and thus gave us a special view of a country we know evry little about

John in Seattle, WA, 2007

Hasan's leadership was outstanding. He was firm about schedule which we all appreciated, but handles every minor crisis with great skill

Melinda in Surrey, BC, 2007

Hasan is one of the most compassionate, thoughtful and passionate person I have met in my life. He made the trip surpass all expectations and helped our group bond into a very special combination of people who truly enjoyed the country and each other in every setting

Joe in Franklin, WI, 2007

Our guide was the best. He made the trip wonderful. I hope my next trip can meet theses expectations.

Helen in Corona, CA, 2007

Hasan could not have been better. His knowledge made the sights come to life. His personality was infectious. He kept everyone involved. Made us laugh and taught me how wonderful this country and its people are. I would travel with him over and over.

Jose in Portland, OR, 2007

Hasan is simply the best. His knowledge and willingness to share it as well as his good humor and willingness to laugh at himself made this trip so memorable for me. Hasan is simply outstanding.

Alphonso in Westport, CT, 2007

Hasan knows how to encourage people to try new things. When he said, "You will see what I mean, you will love it," he was always right.

Kenneth in Odessa, FL, 2007

Doubt I will ever have a more knowledgeable guide with better communication skills.

Greta Nullmann,2007

Terrific guy, was a great tour leader. Really knew and loved his Country, answered all our questions, and got along well with all the people in the group.

Maximilian Nullmann,2007

Hasan did an outstanding job explaining what we were seeing. He kept in contact with other guides who he knew to find out what the current conditions were at the next site so we didn't waste our time in lines if it wasn't necessary. Hasan kept the tour running smoothly and interesting at all times.

Fred in South Lake Tahoe, CA, 2007

My only compaint was the amount of directions at drop off points, as to finding the bus again----confusing for me

Joe in Coupeville, WA, 2007

Hasan's command of the English language was excellent and he was extremely knowledgeable in all areas of Turkish history both past and present. I would have liked it if he had spent some time each day teaching us and having us practice some useful Turkish words and phrases.

Tracy in Santa Rosa, CA, 2007

Tell us about your guide's leadership skills
I think that Hasan faced a very difficult task bridging the cultural barriers. Informal mixing with the tour members could really help with this. He improved as the tour progressed, but because of language and cultural issues, this is a area for improvement.

Douglas in Anacortes, WA, 2007

Hasan was like a stern father and ran the tour like one. He yelled at someone who asked a question the first night and set a tone of inaccessibility. He did not eat or chat with the group. However, he provided a feeling of safety and took care of our needs and kept us on track.

Yvette in Anacortes, WA, 2007

I was quite impressed with the knowledge Hasan had. His leadership skills were outstanding as we were always right on schedule and he made it very clear how long we had on our own and where we would be meeting.

Carlos in Mesa, AZ, 2007

Both the guides were friendly, informative, and enthusiastic and had all leadership qualities.

Usha in Arlington, TX

He was good.

Sue in Fresno, CA, 2007

Hasan was very well organized and planned everything to the smallest detail. His knowledge and history of the sites were absolutely fantastic. How can anybody have so many facts at his fingertips. The orientation of the cultural norms were very helpful. He was always accessible for questions and gave answers very thoroughly.

Melinda in Arlington, TX, 2007

Hasan is highly professional.I would like less politics and more fun-involvement with us.

Jack in West Vancouver, BC, 2007

Hasan was an excellent guide - so knowledgeable and able to trouble shoot when needed. We enjoyed his "Turkish humor" and his amazing knowledge of history and archeology.

Lily in West Vancouver, BC, 2007

One could't ask for a better, more helpfull and knowledgable person

Cocetta in Mesa, AZ, 2007

Hasan was knowledgable regarding the turkish culture and history. We had a few instances of when tour members' questions were answered in a less than respectful manner. Perhaps this is a cultural difference, but I did not always feel free to ask questions or make comments.

Jack Arment,2007

Selcuk is a born leader. I would have followed him anywhere and "loved it." His love of Turkey was contagious and his knowledge incredible. Selcuk displayed a great sense of humor and command of the English language. He is the absolute best tour guide!

Selcuk knows how to encourage people to try new things. When he said, "You will see what I mean, you will love it," he was always right.

Gail in Odessa, FL, 2007

Selcuk was probably the most delightful guide I've ever had. Such a combination of intellect, adventure and fun person!!!!Could have used a little more photo-time.

Nancy in Lake Stevens, WA, 2007

Our guide, Selcuk, was a jewel! He became one of us. He commanded respect without demanding anything from us. He was helpful, considerate, and very passionate about his studies of history & archeology.

Peter in Freeland, WA, 2007

Doubt I will ever have a more knowledgeable guide with better communication skills.

Terrific guy, was a great tour leader. Really knew and loved his Country, answered all our questions, and got along well with all the people in the group.

Amanda Fultor, 2007

Selcuk did an outstanding job explaining what we were seeing. He kept in contact with other guides who he knew to find out what the current conditions were at the next site so we didn't waste our time in lines if it wasn't necessary. Selcuk kept the tour running smoothly and interesting at all times.

My only compaint was the amount of directions at drop off points, as to finding the bus again----confusing for me

Lynn in Coupeville, WA, 2007

Hasan was approachable, knowledgable and informative. I thought he was wonderful overall. I would have liked him to stay with the group longer at Ephesus and give us more information. He lectured at the start of our trip in Ephesus and then let us go our own way. I found myself gravitating toward other english speaking guides in order to get more information about some of the sites at Ephesus. I did the same thing at the ancient christian churches in Cappadocia, that is eves drop on other english speaking tour guides.

Rebecca in San Francisco, CA, 2007

Hasan's command of the English language was excellent and he was extremely knowledgeable in all areas of Turkish history both past and present. I would have liked it if he had spent some time each day teaching us and having us practice some useful Turkish words and phrases.

Michael in Santa Rosa, CA, 2007

Hasan's English was excellent, but would have enjoyed learning some basic Turkish words and phrases, perhaps a new one given each day.

Donald in Santa Rosa, CA, 2007

sometimes when he was giving instructions I lost him but it always worked out

Frances in Riverbank, CA, 2007

Our guide, Hasan was an excellent choice, as being Turkish, he knows the ins and outs of Turkey. He was all business....I liked that.

Raymond in Seattle, WA, 2007

I am enormously impressed with the skills , leadership and teaching of Hasan. Also, the interpersonal interaction in interviews, barbershop trip.

Jackie in Port Angeles, WA, 2007

He set a good tone for being on bus on time and was very knowledgeable. At the beginning I think he gave a little too much information to absorb. As time went on, he seemed to correct that after some of the group mentioned the problem in that.

Andrew in Riverbank, CA, 2007

Hasan was very clear and direct. We were able to bring up and discuss sensitive political issues and he never seemed to flinch. He managed the group with ease and skill.

Margareth in San Rafael, CA, 2007

I thought Hasan was an effective leader, though brusque at times (and that may be a cultural thing). I would enjoy being on a tour with Hasan again.

Ciara in Lake Oswego, OR, 2007

Hasan was a good leader and clearly very knowledgeable about Turkish history and culture.

Ernest in Bluffton, SC, 2007

excellent

Morgan in Seattle, WA, 2007

We were very lucky to have Hasan as our guide. This is a man who is passionate about his country, is continuing to add to his knowledge and was very prepared to answer the simplest to the most complex question.

Donald in Terrey Hills, 2007

Hasan was great although his directions were at times a little confusing - too detailed perhaps?

Jessica in Terrey Hills, 2007

Very knowlegeable.

Judie in Longview, WA, 2007

I can't say enough about what a great guide Hassan was. Knowledgeable, easy going, informative, great personality, and organized.

Victoria in Mountain View, CA, 2007

Get Hasan to lead as many of your Turkish Tours as possible. He is an Archeology major and is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor.

Charles in Mission, BC, 2007

Hasan was outstanding.

William in Albuquerque, NM, 2007

Hassan was super. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. He was so knowledgeable and easy-going, but organized.

Brenda in Albuquerque, NM, 2007

Hasan was an excellent leader and guide. He is a charming, energetic young man who seems genuinely interested in other peoples lives while being passionate about his Turkish culture and heritage. It was great to hear from the youth of a changing country. We loved his daily newspaper reviews, his "lessons" on history, archaelogy, sport and culture. He handled problems easily, was never stressed and encouraged us to explore, wander and get out there. Only suggestion would be more roadside commentary on the long drives. There were lots of What's that growing, how come those houses are different, what's that mountain etc. I realize some liked the quiet, but a little more roadside commentary would be nice. He was great at balancing peoples' interests and deserves a 5 star rating.

Marrilyn in Seattle, WA, 2007

His knowledge of archeology and history was very impressive.

Jonathan in San Juan Capistrano, CA, 2007

He was wonderful

Tom in Seattle, WA, 2007

Hasan has an excellent sense of humor, extensive knowledge, and good judgment.

Jack in Vancouver, WA, 2007

He knew Turkey! Its history, art, religion, culture, everything and was not sensitive to some insensitive questions. Very adept. In every way he conveyed that he greatly enjoyed doing this work.

Charles in San Jose, CA, 2007

Hasan was so knowledgeable about history, art, customs, plus he was such a fun guy, and so patient with us.

Carlos in San Jose, CA, 2007

The country, people and Hasan made this a memorable tour.

Clayton Bumerang,2007

Great leadership, well spoken, enthusiastic and passionate

Larry Triuer,2007

great sense of humor, relaxed, knowledgable, was friendly towards everyone, don't loose him, he's wonderful

Sam in Bellevue, WA, 2007

Hasan was an excellant tour guide. He was easy going, had a exceptional knowledge of the history and culture and he was humerous.

Ronald in Inglewood, CA, 2007

Hasan was a fantastic guide. However, occasionally his explanations were too quick and because of the accent (not bad) a little hard to understand.

Brandy Lou in Hartland, WI, 2007

Hasan was beyond wonderful and was an amazing lead. He was extremely knowledgable and at the same time was also very funny. He kept us laughing and having a spectacular time the entire 2 weeks.

John in San Jose, CA, 2007

Hasan is imaginative, funny, patient, and considerate. Each day an adventure, we were in the bus early because we couldnt wait to get started! Thank You, Hasan!!

Lisa in San Jose, CA, 2007

I never saw a cross expression, or heard a cross word. He was totally upbeat and positive. A great ambassador for his country.

Julie in La Connor, WA, 2007

I cannot imagine a better tour guide. Haasan is humorous, warm, down-to-earth, hard-working, accommodating, knowledgeable, accessible, and every other good word I can think of. Where did you find this guy?

Bernice in Inglewood, CA, 2007

excellent could not do any more

Nouma in Redwood Valley, CA, 2007

Hasan was amazing. His enthusiasm for sharing his country and culture made every moment special. It was obvious that he truly cared about us learing about Turkey and the Turkish people. He certainly set a standard for guides that I don't think I will ever see again.

Karla in Eugene, OR, 2007

Hasan was both personable and extremely knowledgeable. We never tired of his talks and he seemed to strike a good balance of informing without preaching or boring. He also showed a great deal of pride in showing us his home country and pointing out very interesting facts that we might have missed en route. We could not imagine a tour leader better at leading this tour than Hasan!

Ashton Truefer,2007

It was toward the end of a long season for Hasan, and his wife had just had a baby. Understandably, he probably wanted to be home with his family. He sometimes had sort of a military, "by the numbers" style -- but he did keep us on schedule, and we saw everything we wanted to see. His comments about the Turkish character were objective and very interesting. He's an excellent guide with a great sense of humor who knows how to deal with Americans.

Brigitte in Mesilla Park, NM2007

Only criticism is that his formal presentations seemed to lack organization and to ramble around a bit. An organizational outline might have helped him. Nothing serious.

Douglas in Shoreline, WA, 2007

I felt he was somewhat inaccessible at times, especially to female tour members. This could have been due to his Turkish heritage.

Ronald in Redmond, WA, 2007

Hasan runs an excellent tour and is clearly very knowledgeable. In trying to teach us a little bit of the language, he proceeds far too quickly for English speakers who, typically, are very unfamiliar with Turkish. He could make the lessons much simplier by just teaching us a few common words and include our practice and participation in the lessons.

Jordan in Sun Valley, ID, 2007

Hasan is a true professional; he is attentive to one's needs, knows and LOVES his country; is totally enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable about all aspects..historical, social, economic and political.

Sam in Bremerton, WA, 2007

Hasan runs a tight ship. He kept to the schedule, and was flexible when necessary. His knowledge of Turkey and its history is vast.

Martin in Seabeck, WA, 2007

Ayse is an excellent guide! Extremely knowledgeable fun!, helpful. It was very interesting to hear about her life as a Turkish woman interesting as well as about her family, the political situation past & present, & other aspects of Turkish life & history.

Melinda in Surrey, BC, 2007

"Ayse" was an excellent tour guide who loves her country and was eager to share everything with us....what else could we have hoped for? I learned so much and had a wonderful experience in Turkey.

Joe in Camano Island, WA, 2007

Ayse was definitely in charge, and knew how to keep us in line, in a friendly way. occasionally, I was a little confused by her directions, but she was happy to repeat.

Nancy in Oakland, CA, 2007

Very punctual and clear with instructions - all in a very pleasant manner. Intelligent and knowledgeable about culture, history and current events.

Barbara in Flossmoor, IL, 2007

The only thing Ayse doesn't do extremely well is give directions on how to get somewhere, and I think that is totally cultural, so she shouldn't try to change it. We should change.

Sue in Flossmoor, IL, 2007

Ayse was an excellent guide and help from beginning to end - knowledgable, accessible, charming, very much in charge of the group but also very much wanting us to leave with some understanding of and appreciation for the wonders of her country.

Lynn in Sacramento, CA, 2007

She was terrific!

Charles in Winnetka, IL, 2007

Ayse was an excellent guide. Very good leaderships skills. Very patient .

Mike in Seattle, WA, 2007

Ayse was incredible! She is a intelligent and charismatic young woman who, by incorporating parts of her own life story into what we encountered each day, made Turkey come alive. Her grasp of not only Turkish history and culture, but also its standing in the world, made this a far more enjoyable and educational trip.

Rilley in Sedro-woolley, WA, 2007

Ayse is an excellent guide - good knowledge of history and contemporary politics. Her verbal directions of how to get places when we were on our own were a little confusing.

William in Sacramento, CA, 2007

He was fantastic. His enthusiasm and concern for us remarkable. I would love doing another tour with him as we felt in very good and capable hands.

Thomas in Sagle, ID, 2007

Communication with Hasan was excellent, he was always available to answer questions. He had great patience.

Suzie in Novato, CA, 2007

We learned to love Turkey through the eyes of our guide Selcuk. He was very knowledgeable, thorough and patient. His enthusiam for his country was absolutely contagious! I would follow him anywhere!

Patrick in Novato, CA, 2007

He's a natural leader. I would love more history, but he did a good job at hitting the highlights and being concise.

Jack in Long Beach, WA, 2007

Selcuk was always accessible, observant of the group, but never overbearing. He has a light, fun and playful side and was very generous with his sharing of Turkish culture.

Sarah in Bellingham, WA, 2007

If Sidar were any better, I couldn't stand it. He is thoughtful, engaging, enlightening, funny, endearing, full of surprises, responsive to everyone all the time. He's a real gem.

Douglas in Oakland, CA, 2007

What to say about Selcuk--just thinking about him brings a smile to my face--he is a remarkable and unique person--so smart and knowledgeagle, he is also fun and adventuresome--the best guide to Turkey I can imagine--he always tried to make the tour the very best it could be for everyone

Alicia in Alexandria, VA, 2007

Selcuk kept us on track, while allowing flexibility, free time and options. He was very personable and interesting to talk with. Discussions on the bus about historical issues and current events in Turkey added greatly to tour.

Albert in Bellingham, WA, 2007

Absolutely fantastic--couldn't be improved on. His knowledge and enthusiasm and patience and responsiveness to our needs and wants--all superb.

Mark in Washington, DC, 2007

Very good guide

David in Westmont, IL, 2007

Selcuk set a benchmark for tour guides that it will be hard for others to meet. He is very intelligent and knowledgeable about art, archeology and history. He was a very fun person to be with.

Rick in Silver Spring, MD, 2007

You should do whatever you have to do to make sure you keep Selcuk as a guide for your Turkey tours. He was an absolute delight and always had more information available than we could possibly digest, despite all the questions we asked. He kept the tour running like clockwork, and he also encouraged us to give him feedback partway through the tour so he would know how to improve as we went along. I always felt comfortable asking questions of all types. He was very clear about where to meet, what to do, etc. He also was exceedingly thoughtful in telling us things even before we realized we wanted to know -- where the next bathroom would be, etc.

Gladys in Gainesville, FL, 2007

I have given him full marks - he was perfect: gracious, thoughtful, resourceful, informative, charming and a proud Turk! We all loved him!

Carol in San Francisco, CA, 2007

Selcuk is a great guide. He is passionate about Turkey and this is infectious.

Joseph Kenneth,2007

Outstanding knowledge of the country's history, customs and traditions, and his fluency with the English language.

David Bulgar,2007

It is not possible to improve upon Selcuk, unless scientists perfect human cloning. No, even then, it would not be an improvement, just a step sideways. Do everything in your power to keep Selcuk happy; his blend of knowledge and humor is unparalleled.

Christopher in Gainesville, FL, 2007

Great!!

Dan in Nashville, TN, 2007

excellent- pleasant, funny and informative. Don't downplay pammukale- i didn't go because of these comments and heard it was a tour highlight

Josephin Philadelphia, PA, 2007

Selcuk is underemployed as tour guide. He is charismatic, charming, brilliant, and enthusiastic.

Ted in Philadelphia, PA, 2007

I thought she was really in charge, but, at times, maybe a little too accomodating for a couple of members who were probably not in the shape necessary to take full advantage of the tour.

Bernie in Herminie, PA, 2007

Ayse was wonderful. One sensed her passion and love for her country, yet she presented an overall balanced assessment of the policical situation. I liked that she was also firm about keeping the group on schedule. She was also sensitive to signs of fatigue from the extreme heat we experienced early on the tour. Good sense of humor--which was absolutely essential!

Jack Claremont, CA, 2007

I loved our guide, Ayse. She was great. She was funny, accessible for questions, concerns, comments, etc.

Nancy in Spokane Valley, WA, 2007

Very personable and enriched our tour with her information!

Norma in Lynchburg, VA, 2007

Ayse was incredible. We had some people on our tour with health issues and she was very compassion and understanding with these people.

Samuel in Toronto, ON, 2007

Hasan is a very seasoned guide and able to anticipate challenges before they occur. His preparation was outstanding and since very few local guides were used, he had the entire burden of preparing us for the sites as well as on site leading.

Yehuda in Federal Way, WA, 2007

was excellent in helping the members of our tour to mingel also was able to keep every one on track

Jakob in San Angelo, TX, 2007

Well, at first he was a little condencending insofar as his schoolmarm rule setting, but as a teacher, I understand that getting the groundrules layed out in the beginning helps aleviate problems that come up later. he was excellent.

Oliver in Rotterdam, 2007

He seemed knowledgable about both history and current events, he explained himself well, and was always clear about what to expect in each place we came to.

Bernard in San Angelo, TX, 2007

Excellent. Decisive and knowledgeable, Hasan was always open to suggestions and available for questions.

Marcio in San Angelo, TX, 2007

Hasan was incredible. We were so impressed with him. He has a tremendous and varied knowledge of Turkey. He did his best to get coffee for the group at each place we stayed (I didn't know that the Turks only drink tea and Turkish coffee).

Cesar in Sugar Grove, IL, 2007

It seemed at times that the time on the guide's watch was slightly different than that displayed on the bus clock, so it would have been preferable that we all coordinate to the time on the bus clock.

Mark in Phoenix, AZ, 2007

Hasan did a great job, was amazed at how much he knew about his country.

Robert in San Angelo, TX, 2007

Great--didn't always remember to do buddy checks until we reminded him

Helen in Lincoln, CA, 2007

He was excellent

Jean in Carlsbad, CA, 2007

Selcuk is a Turkish national treasure. He did a great job of exposing us to the "real" Turkey, its people and its culture.

Rick in Sacramento, CA, 2007

The guide on any tour that I take in the future will pale in comparison to Selcuk. It was obvious that he loves his country and enjoyed showing it to us and introducing us to people he knows in the villages. His knowledge of history, art, religion and architecture is incredible. His excitement in sharing this with us was contagious. I do not know whether other tour groups have come together like ours did; but if Selcuk had suggested continuing on the road for another week, we all would have followed him without hesitation. I truly look forward to visiting Turkey again, maybe on an eastern Turkey tour with Selcuk...!

Tom in Long Beach, CA, 2007

Fantastic! I always knew exactly when and where to meet up with the group, and Selcuk was very knowledgable about all of the places we went. He made every stop interesting and memorable.

Jackie in Daly City, CA, 2007

In my opinion, our lead guide,Selcuk, was so well spoken, so funny and knowledgeable about the entire history of all the places we visited. He was undeniably one of the main reasons why this tour was just so amazing. He showed us the true flavor of Turkey and shared with us his love of his country. I will always remember Turkey with fondness. In my opinion, once you've visited Turkey, you don't even really think of Greece anymore.

Mary in Sacramento, CA, 2007

Selcuk is the perfect tour guide and an excellent host and ambassador for his country. I can't imagine anyone doing the job better, which does make me nervous about taking a tour with another leader. He just could not be better.

Robert in Oakland, CA, 2007

Selcuk is an outstanding lead guide and saved us lots of time and discomfort by timing our sightseeing at the optimum times. Definitely a five star.

Mercedes in Oceanport, NJ, 2007

Frankly, Selcuk couldn't have been beaten. In addition to a great tour group, he made the trip!

Maria in Kingston, WA, 2007

I found Selcuk to be outstanding on all counts and would change nothing. From comments on the trip, I believe he was well- liked and respected by all.

Bernard Friendris,2007

Selcuk was the best. In fact, he has made other tours look bad.

Mike in San Bernardino, CA, 2007

Very organized - we were always informed re times of departure, etc. and he kept to the time table. And I really appreciated that. Fun guide!

Barbara in Seattle, WA, 2007

Selcuk told us multiple times where we would meet, what we would do, where it would be, and how much time we would have so no one should be confused.

Richard in Ormond Beach, FL, 2007

Selchuk was a wonderful and fun-loving individual who made the trip so much more informative and valuable. He is a truly good people-person and a very caring individual.

Linda in Ormond Beach, FL, 2007

He is creative and personable. Best possible guide for Turkey.

Donna in San Bernardino, CA, 2007

Selcuk has such as easy going manner that everyone was drawn to him. There was no difficulty with him keeping control of the group.

Martha in San Jose, CA, 2007

You cannot improve on Selcuk--that is not possible! If you could use him on every tour, you would always have a list just because of him--outstanding and made the tour 10 times what it could have been!!!!!

Suzie in Evansville, IN, 2007

Selcuk's leadership skills were professional and approachable.

Chemneto in Carmichael, CA, 2007

Selcuk is an excellent guide. He had knowledge and maturity well beyond his years. He also shared with us the love of his country.

Louisse Belmant,2007

As I said above, he was incredible in every sense of the word.

Douglas in Evansville, IN, 2007

Ayse was excellent. That says it all.

John in Tacoma, WA, 2007

Vivacious, friendly and eager to teach about her country.

Robert in Mount Vernon, WA, 2007

Ayse did an outstanding job. She clearly loved her country and was the perfect person to share the wealth of history and culture we found in Turkey.

Kathy in Houston, TX, 2007

Sometimes it was not clear about what was happening next, and sometimes there was too much detail. It is a matter of clearly stating the most important points and avoiding too much detail, e.g. at Ephesus how were all the options going to be handled and in relation to the bus.

Loraine in Scottsdale, AZ, 2007

Ayse did an exemplary job! I would seek her out as a tour guide on any future trip, if given the option. She is a top of the line tour leader in EVERY respect. She is friendly, wise and extremely knowledgeable. She knows Turkey inside and out and was able to provide such intersting background on both the history and the contemporary happenings in the country. She was an excellent leader and was able to combine the ability to take charge and provide leadership while remaining gracious and welcoming. She was also attentive to people's needs. She is very good with people. She could "hold her own" in any situation.

Dan in Lake Forest Park, WA, 2007

Ayse was knowledgeable, caring, carismatic, full of life, enthusiastic, and a great representative of her country. Simply the best

Debra in Lake Forest Park, WA, 2007

Ayse did a wonderful job! It's difficult to imagine a better conveying of her country's history and culture. Her love for and pride in her country was evident and contagious. We really enjoyed her company as well as her leadership on the tour!

Barbara in Mount Vernon, WA, 2007

Ayse is a delight and her smile and joy are infectious. Turkey couldn't have a better ambassador than Ayse.

Madeline in Napa, CA, 2007

best guide we have ever had

Philip in Saratoga, CA, 2007

Selcuk was very knowledgeable of the area and the history. He also has a terrific sense of humor that kept everyone relaxed.

David in Allentown, PA, 2007

I cannot think of any way Selcuk could have done better.

Susan in Mt View, CA, 2007

Selcuk is simply wonderful

Andrea in Silver Spring, MD, 2007

Selcuk was great! He was informative, fun and conveyed history and other information clearly. The Q&A portions were well handled.

Arthur in San Diego, CA, 2007

I was very pleased with the guide.

Jean in Silver Spring, MD, 2007

Outstanding in most respects. Briefings on history were excellent but, speaking as a scientist, his opinions on health and properties of food were not accurate or of value.

Helen in Silver Spring, MD, 2007

Selcuk was one of the best guide's I have traveled with. He seemed to take great pride in showing us his country and teaching us it's history. He has a great sense of humor, full of suprises and always there to help us out whenever we needed him.

Lynn in Rockville, MD, 2007

He was wonderful in every way. Obviously, he was experienced and liked what he was doing.

Grace in Medford, OR, 2007

Selcuk is exemplary. Knoledge of Turkey from a historical, social and political aspect is extensive. He never wasted time and took great pains to work our visits to ruins, museums etc. when the fewest tourists were there. Everyone on the tour raved about him.

Christopher in Alpine, TX, 2007

Selcuk kept the tour on schedule, was very clear in his directions and established a warm, fun, sharing environment for the tour. His knowledge of Turkey and passion for it were very evident.

Julie in Walnut Creek, CA, 2007

Hasan was a very personable and articulate guide. He clearly was proud of his country and enjoyed sharing it with us.

Peggy in Kensington, MD2007

Guide was very knowledgable about history dates etc. Would be nice not to give so much detail when explaining the next days activities. Lead guide was a bit blunt at times. Perhaps he was thinking about his wife having the baby at any moment.

Jackie in Austin, MN, 2007

Our main guide was hospitable and knowledgeable but could have listened more to what the various individuals wanted to know.

Joanthan in Aurora, CO, 2007

Hasan clearly was proud of his country. The fact that there was a constitutional crisis going on while we were there was fascinating. He really tried to give us as much detail as possible. I for one really aprreciated hearing this civics lession. His command of English was superior. His knowledge of the history of his country as well as the antiquities was also excellent. I don;t have many guides to compare him to, but i was more than impressed

Mark in Fort Worth, TX, 2007

Knowledge of archeology and history seemed limited to Ottoman empire/Islamic topics. A lot of history happened before the Ottoman empire, and I would have appreciated a more balanced presentation.

Percy in Morro Bay, CA, 2007

He kept things on schedule, and was attentive to the various needs of the group.

Robert in Morro Bay, CA, 2007

Hasan was very clear in what and when we were going to do things. I liked his no-nonsense attitude to being on time. And everybody was.He was flexible about time based on what we were going to see and what else was on the schedule.

Arthur in Poulsbo, WA, 2007

Selcuk was a delight. You can't improve on perfection.

Mary in Phoenix, AZ, 2007

Bettyin El Cajon, CA, 2007

Selcuk has good leadership skills and his outgoing personality, charm, humor and zest for life made the trip a pleasure.

Suzan Baribas,2007

I was impressed with Selcuk's knowledge. He was a walking encyclopedia of every place we visited. He speaks English very well, which I'm sure is a feat considering how different Turkish is from English, unlike many European languages.

Mike in Honolulu, HI, 2007

Selcuk is a terrific guide. He is knowledgeable and articulate, and good natured about people correcting his English (which is excellent, by the way). He is personable and has a great sense of humor which can save the day.

Beverly in Honolulu, HI, 2007

I particularly liked our guide. She was open, honest and went out of her way to be helpful.

Cynthia in Bandon, OR, 2006

Catherine in St John's, NL, 2006

My scores say it all - I have been on a number of tours, but never had I had such an engaging, fun, flexible, intelligent guide. I feel that he truly was having as much fun as we were -I hope that was true. As we told him, his zest for living and his love of his country are contagious !

Maria in Bellevue, WA, 2006

He was excellent.

Jennifer Lebrant,2006

Selcuk was extremely knowledgeable about art, history, the country, music, food...and kept us all entertained with his stories, anecdotes. I loved the daily Turkish newspaper update in the bus. It made us talk and think as we were travelling. He was "in charge" and aat the same time accessible.

John in Glenview, IL, 2006

Selcuk is an amazing guide! He knows so much about the history, art, archaeology and people of Turkey, and he has such a passion for sharing the wonders of his country with the rest of the world. He is very personable, and really went above and beyond to make sure that people were having a good time -- even giving great advice for our post-tour plans. He is super organized, and a master at putting together alternate plans when weather or other circumstances force a change. I would definitely travel with him again in Turkey or anywhere else if I had the opportunity.

Donald in Seattle, WA, 2006

our guide was always up, he always had answers or reasons.

John in Everett, WA, 2006

Selcuk was - the only word to describe him - incredible. Donald in Port Orchard, WA, 2006

Overall, outstanding and flexible. When things went wrong, and they will, inevitably do so, he "made lemons out of lemonade. Probably the best primary guide of any tour I have been on. We could, however, have used a bit less commentary on U.S. politics and the catholic church in the current events reading. (Part of that was the responsibility of some of the other tour participants, who encouraged those comments.)

Jennifer in San Anselmo, CA, 2006

We could have recieved more precise information and more in depth at times. He had a good attitude and was fun.

Dennise Triangle, 2006

Selcuk was wonderful. He has a great sense of humor and his knowledge of the area was fantastic, along with his willingness to embrace new ideas.

Derya was a great guide. Her grasp of history, art, architecture, religeon, etc were very impressive. She acknowledged and took time for everyone.

David in Olympia, WA, 2006

Derya is very good. She knows her information and shares it well. Several times though I wondered if she was being totally candid when asked questions about cultural or political topics, especially since I had done some reading on Turkey before travelling. An example would be the discussion about Turkey and issues surrounding its admission to the EU.

Derya is highly competent in her role as a guide. She was very informative and a great resource.

Araceli in Edmonds, WA, 2006

In general Hasan is a superior guide than you get with other tour companies. He loves his

Quentin Bernarditi, 2006

Hasan was a wonderful guide. He was unfailingly helpful and generous with his time. His knowledge of and love for Turkey came through with all he did.

William in Sebastopol, CA, 2006

Tell us about your guide's leadership skills
Hasan's command of the English language was excellent and he was extremely knowledgeable in all areas of Turkish history both past and present. I would have liked it if he had spent some time each day teaching us and having us practice some useful Turkish words and phrases.

Johnson in Santa Rosa, CA, 2007

Hasan's English was excellent, but would have enjoyed learning some basic Turkish words and phrases, perhaps a new one given each day.

Suzie in Santa Rosa, CA, 2007

sometimes when he was giving instructions I lost him but it always worked out

John in Riverbank, CA, 2007

I am enormously impressed with the skills , leadership and teaching of Hasan. Also, the interpersonal interaction in interviews.

Donald in Port Angeles, WA, 2007

He set a good tone for being on bus on time and was very knowledgeable. At the beginning I think he gave a little too much information to absorb. As time went on, he seemed to correct that after some of the group mentioned the problem in that.

Gerome in Riverbank, CA, 2007

Hasan was very clear and direct. We were able to bring up and discuss sensitive political issues and he never seemed to flinch. He managed the group with ease and skill.

Oliver in San Rafael, CA, 2007

Hasan was a good leader and clearly very knowledgeable about Turkish history and culture.

Nathalie in Bluffton, SC, 2007

He was so knowledgeable about history, art, customs, plus he was such a fun guy, and so patient with us.

The country, people and Selcuk made this a memorable tour.

Jackie in Santa Fe, NM, 2007

He was an excellant tour guide. He was easy going, had a exceptional knowledge of the history and culture and he was humerous.

Helen in Inglewood, CA, 2007

Selcuk was a fantastic guide. However, occasionally his explanations were too quick and because of the accent (not bad) a little hard to understand.

Suzanne Lou in Hartland, WI, 2007

He was beyond wonderful and was an amazing lead. He was extremely knowledgable and at the same time was also very funny. He kept us laughing and having a spectacular time the entire 2 weeks.

Selcuk is imaginative, funny, patient, and considerate. Each day an adventure, we were in the bus early because we couldnt wait to get started!

Lynn in San Jose, CA, 2007

I never saw a cross expression, or heard a cross word. He was totally upbeat and positive. A great ambassador for his country.

Margareth in La Connor, WA, 2007

Selcuk is an excellent leader. I have nothing to suggest to improve his leadership skills.

Caroline Vergunsen, 2007

I cannot imagine a better tour guide. Selcuk is humorous, warm, down-to-earth, hard-working, accommodating, knowledgeable, accessible, and every other good word I can think of. Where did you find this guy?

Marcia in Inglewood, CA, 2007

excellent could not do any more

Jackie in Redwood Valley, CA, 2007

He was amazing. His enthusiasm for sharing his country and culture made every moment special. It was obvious that he truly cared about us learing about Turkey and the Turkish people. He certainly set a standard for guides that I don't think I will ever see again.

Sharon in Eugene, OR, 2007

Hasan was both personable and extremely knowledgeable. We never tired of his talks and he seemed to strike a good balance of informing without preaching or boring. He also showed a great deal of pride in showing us his home country and pointing out very interesting facts that we might have missed en route.

Stacey Kullinard,2007

I felt he was somewhat inaccessible at times, especially to female tour members. This could have been due to his Turkish heritage.

Frank in Redmond, WA, 2007

perhaps I am being a little too positive but I thought Hasan did excellent jobs

Richard in Seattle, WA, 2007

Hasan runs an excellent tour and is clearly very knowledgeable. In trying to teach us a little bit of the language, he proceeds far too quickly for English speakers who, typically, are very unfamiliar with Turkish. He could make the lessons much simplier by just teaching us a few common words and include our practice and participation in the lessons.

Gisele in Sun Valley, ID, 2007

He is a true professional; he is attentive to one's needs, knows and loves his country; is totally enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable about all aspects..historical, social, economic and political.

Caroline in Bremerton, WA, 2007

He kept to the schedule, and was flexible when necessary. His knowledge of Turkey and its history is vast.

Suzie in Seabeck, WA, 2007

Ayse was an excellent tour guide who loves her country and was eager to share everything with us....what else could we have hoped for? I learned so much and had a wonderful experience in Turkey.

Joe in Camano Island, WA, 2007

Ayse was definitely in charge, and knew how to keep us in line, in a friendly way. occasionally, I was a little confused by her directions, but she was happy to repeat.

Brigitte in Oakland, CA, 2007

Ayse was an exceptional guide. She was proud of her native Turkey and very well informed. Perhaps there could have been longer periods of quiet and time for reflection or reading on the bus. Music need not always be provided. I would certainly take another trip with Ayse as my guide.

Nathan in Sacramento, CA, 2007

Very punctual and clear with instructions - all in a very pleasant manner. Intelligent and knowledgeable about culture, history and current events.

Jerome in Flossmoor, IL, 2007

Ayse was an excellent guide and help from beginning to end - knowledgable, accessible, charming, very much in charge of the group but also very much wanting us to leave with some understanding of and appreciation for the wonders of her country.

Lynda in Sacramento, CA, 2007

She was terrific!

Margarithe in Winnetka, IL2007

Ayse was an excellent guide. Very good leaderships skills.

Michele in Seattle, WA, 2007

Ayse was incredible! She is a intelligent and charismatic young woman who, by incorporating parts of her own life story into what we encountered each day, made Turkey come alive. Her grasp of not only Turkish history and culture, but also its standing in the world, made this a far more enjoyable and educational trip.

Betsy in Sedro-woolley, WA, 2007

Ayse is an excellent guide - good knowledge of history and contemporary politics. Her verbal directions of how to get places when we were on our own were a little confusing.

Lynn in Sacramento, CA, 2007

He was fantastic. His enthusiasm and concern for us remarkable. I would love doing another tour with him as we felt in very good and capable hands.

Patrick in Sagle, ID, 2007

He's a natural leader. I would love more history, but he did a good job at hitting the highlights and being concise.

Roger in Long Beach, WA, 2007

If Selcuk were any better, I couldn't stand it. He is thoughtful, engaging, enlightening, funny, endearing, full of surprises, responsive to everyone all the time. He's a real gem.

Carolyn in Oakland, CA, 2007

What to say about Selcuk--just thinking about him brings a smile to my face--he is a remarkable and unique person--so smart and knowledgeagle, he is also fun and adventuresome--the best guide to Turkey I can imagine--he always tried to make the tour the very best it could be for everyone

Bilu in Alexandria, VA, 2007

He kept us on track, while allowing flexibility, free time and options. He was very personable and interesting to talk with. Discussions about historical issues and current events in Turkey added greatly to tour.

Jonathan in Silver Spring, MD, 2007

You should do whatever you have to do to make sure you keep Selcuk as a guide for your Turkey tours. He was an absolute delight and always had more information available than we could possibly digest, despite all the questions we asked. He also was exceedingly thoughtful in telling us things even before we realized we wanted to know -- where the next bathroom would be, etc.

Dan in Gainesville, FL, 2007

I have given him full marks - he was perfect: gracious, thoughtful, resourceful, informative, charming and a proud Turk! We all loved him!

Outstanding knowledge of the country's history, customs and traditions, and his fluency with the English language.

Quentin Fiorena,2007

Great!!

Joe in Nashville, TN, 2007

excellent- pleasant, funny and informative. Don't downplay cappadocia- i didn't go because of these comments and heard it was a tour highlight

Judy in Philadelphia, PA, 2007

I thought she was really in charge, but, at times, maybe a little too accomodating for a couple of members who were probably not in the shape necessary to take full advantage of the tour.

Frank in Herminie, PA, 2007

She was wonderful. One sensed her passion and love for her country, yet she presented an overall balanced assessment of the policical situation. I liked that she was also firm about keeping the group on schedule. Good sense of humor--which was absolutely essential!

Gisele in Claremont, CA, 2007

I loved our guide. She was great. She was funny, accessible for questions, concerns, comments, etc.

Caroline in Spokane Valley, WA, 2007

Very personable and enriched our tour with her information!

Tom in Lynchburg, VA, 2007

Ayse was incredible. We had some people on our tour with health issues and she was very compassion and understanding with these people.

Claire in Toronto, ON, 2007

Hasan is a very seasoned guide and able to anticipate challenges before they occur. His preparation was outstanding and since very few local guides were used, he had the entire burden of preparing us for the sites as well as on site leading.

Thomas in Federal Way, WA, 2007

was excellent in helping the members of our tour to mingel also was able to keep every one on track

Erin in San Angelo, TX, 2007

He was pretty good. As I mentioned before time could have been handled a little better. Also I wish he had done some more of the langauge lessons early on instead of towards the end.

Jacob in San Angelo, TX, 2007

He seemed knowledgable about both history and current events, he explained himself well, and was always clear about what to expect in each place we came to.

Cassandra in San Angelo, TX, 2007

Hasan was incredible. We were so impressed with him. He has a tremendous and varied knowledge of Turkey.

Louis in Sugar Grove, IL, 2007

It seemed at times that the time on the guide's watch was slightly different than that displayed on the bus clock, so it would have been preferable that we all coordinate to the time on the bus clock.

Diana in Phoenix, AZ, 2007

Hasan did a great job, was amazed at how much he knew about his country.

Kent in San Angelo, TX, 2007

Great--didn't always remember to do buddy checks until we reminded him

Diana in Lincoln, CA, 2007

He was excellent

Barbara in Carlsbad, CA, 2007

Selcuk is a Turkish national treasure. He did a great job of exposing us to the "real" Turkey, its people and its culture.

Fantastic! I always knew exactly when and where to meet up with the group, and Selcuk was very knowledgable about all of the places we went. He made every stop interesting and memorable.

John in Daly City, CA, 2007

In my opinion, our guide, was so well spoken, so funny and knowledgeable about the entire history of all the places we visited. He was undeniably one of the main reasons why this tour was just so amazing. He showed us the true flavor of Turkey and shared with us his love of his country. I will always remember Turkey with fondness.

Ethel in Sacramento, CA, 2007

Selcuk is the perfect tour guide and an excellent host and ambassador for his country. I can't imagine anyone doing the job better, which does make me nervous about taking a tour with another leader. He just could not be better.

Mark in Oakland, CA, 2007

Frankly, Selcuk couldn't have been beaten. In addition to a great tour group, he made the trip!

Paul in Kingston, WA, 2007

Jordan Constantino,2007

Selcuk was the best. In fact, he has made other tours look bad.

Bernard in San Bernardino, CA, 2007

Very organized - we were always informed re times of departure, etc. and he kept to the time table. And I really appreciated that. Fun guide!

Douglas in Seattle, WA, 2007

Selcuk told us multiple times where we would meet, what we would do, where it would be, and how much time we would have so no one should be confused.

Bernie in Ormond Beach, FL,2007

He was a wonderful and fun-loving individual who made the trip so much more informative and valuable. He is a truly good people-person and a very caring individual.

Amelie in Mount Vernon, WA, 2007

Ayse did an outstanding job. She clearly loved her country and was the perfect person to share the wealth of history and culture we found in Turkey.

Jack in Houston, TX, 2007

Sometimes it was not clear about what was happening next, and sometimes there was too much detail. It is a matter of clearly stating the most important points and avoiding too much detail.

Donald in Scottsdale, AZ, 2007

Ayse did an exemplary job! I would seek her out as a tour guide on any future trip, if given the option. She is a top of the line tour leader in every respect. She is friendly, wise and extremely knowledgeable. She knows Turkey inside and out and was able to provide such intersting background on both the history and the contemporary happenings in the country. She was an excellent leader and was able to combine the ability to take charge and provide leadership while remaining gracious and welcoming. She was also attentive to people's needs. She is very good with people.

Diane in Walnut Creek, CA, 2007

Hasan was a very personable and articulate guide. He clearly was proud of his country and enjoyed sharing it with us.

Linda in Kensington, MD, 2007

Our main guide was hospitable and knowledgeable but could have listened more to what the various individuals wanted to know.

Victoria in Aurora, CO, 2007

Knowledge of archeology and history seemed limited to Ottoman empire. A lot of history happened before the Ottoman empire, and I would have appreciated a more balanced presentation.

Barbara in Morro Bay, CA, 2007

He kept things on schedule, and was attentive to the various needs of the group.

Daniel in Morro Bay, CA, 2007

I was impressed with Selcuk's knowledge. He was a walking encyclopedia of every place we visited. He speaks English very well, which I'm sure is a feat considering how different Turkish is from English, unlike many European languages.

Jack in Honolulu, HI, 2007

Selcuk is a terrific guide. He is knowledgeable and articulate, and good natured about people correcting his English (which is excellent, by the way). He is personable and has a great sense of humor which can save the day.

Julie in Honolulu, HI, 2007

I thought that she was great but there were times on the bus when I just wanted the option not to learn/listen anymore - I think that just comes with spending 2 weeks with new people in a new place.

Ramon in St John's, NF, 2006

I particularly liked our guide. She was open, honest and went out of her way to be helpful.

Marcio in Bandon, OR, 2006

Peter Murberg,2006

Derya worked very hard to make the tour successful. My only area for improvement might be that she could be more concise in her comments. She tended to perhaps give too much information - especially on the bus when people needed to clear their minds a bit.

Jack Feysard,2006

She was extremely knowledgeable and worked tirelessly to ensure the group received the best the country had to offer. I recommend her highly.

Katty in St John's, NL, 2006

Jelal in Vancouver, WA, 2006

Derya is excellent. I'd travel again with her in a heartbeat!

Debra in Centennial, CO, 2006

Derya was a great guide. Her grasp of history, art, architecture, religeon, etc were very impressive. She acknowledged and took time for everyone.

David in Olympia, WA, 2006

Derya is very good. She knows her information and shares it well. Several times though I wondered if she was being totally candid when asked questions about cultural or political topics, especially since I had done some reading on Turkey before travelling. An example would be the discussion about Turkey and issues surrounding its admission to the EU.

Brian in Edmonds, WA, 2006

Our guide is highly competent in her role as a guide. She was very informative and a great resource.

Henry in Edmonds, WA, 2006

I'm completely satisfied.

John in Vancouver, WA, 2006

Our guide is very efficient. She gave good directions and then let us go on our own to meet her later at specified times and places. She is very knowledgable.

Veronique in Folsom, CA, 2006

Derya is an extremely knowledgeable guide and a pleasure to be with

Helen Earson,2006

Derya is unique and the best guide we have ever had!

Jim in Port Hadlock, WA, 2006

Derya is a great guide and historian, knows Turkey well.

Bernard in Novato, CA, 2006

Hasan was great-always willing to answer questions.

Larry Cruegel,2006

In general Hasan is a superior guide than you get with other tour companies. He loves his country and wants you to feel it and understand it too.

Jack Cruegel,2006

Hasan was great. His humor is deadpan, and I think it took a while for some folks to know when he was joking and to learn that he is quite approachable--he's not a gushy, emotive American--but I found him always fair and always responsive. He is passionate about Turkey, and that was clear in everything he said. That made him an especially good tour guide. His knowledge of Turkish history was limitless, and he was willing to keep talking about every aspect of Turkey that we wanted to know about until we ran out of questions.

Katty in Santa Rosa, CA, 2006

Hasan was a wonderful guide. He was unfailingly helpful and generous with his time. His knowledge of and love for Turkey came through with all he did.

Eric in Sebastopol, CA, 2006

Hasan was very knowledgeable and answered all questions, an excellent guide.

Marc in Denham Springs, LA, 2006

My favorite thing about Hassan was his clear love for his country, people, and culture - and how much he enjoyed sharing these with us. I rated him adequate on speaking because when the tour first started he appeared nervous when speaking to us all. It may just have been cultural misunderstanding, because he seemed quite comfortable by mid-trip.

Jean in Millbrae, CA, 2006

Selcuk without a doubt has been the best tour guide I have had. He brings a true love of teaching, great depth of knowledge about Turkey both ancient and modern, coupled with outstanding people skills, much good humor, youthful enthusiasm, and dedication to his profession.

John in Puyallup, WA, 2006

Selcuk was very personable and had a great sense of humor which made the tour fun. He was very knowledgeable and imparted that knowledge in an easily understood way.
Douglas in Puyallup, WA, 2006

Selcuk was excellent. He has great people skills. He is definitely an asset to the trip.

Donald Schweister,2006

Helena Schweister,2006

Henry Schweister,2006

Selcuk was spectacular.

JACK in Albany, NY, 2006

I could not of had a better guide... he made magic happen on this trip ... people of the villages and areas responded to him and things that were not planned happened.... it was so much fun with the people we saw he had a way with people that made where we were special. He helped us know the Turkish people ... told us much of the history of Turkey to understand the people and the religion ... I have learned much from this trip any one to have Selcuk as their Turkish guide is lucky.

Bernie in Crawfordsville, IN, 2006

Selcuk was amazing, we could not have had a better tourguide! He was knowledgeable, a lot of fun, full of energy and enthusiasm, spontaneous and with a deep love for his country and its people. He was always available to answer our questions and went the extra mile for us. He was open minded and always with a smile. I learnt a lot from him. He was the best! Thank you Selcuk!

Mary in Washington, DC, 2006

What else can we say? He was a huge reason we so thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had such a memorable trip!

Bob Leemart,2006

Derya was an excellent tour guide, very knowlegeable of so many different aspects of Turkey. She was very accessible & helpful, especially to all the members who needed guidance for after tour plans. Felt she handled certain difficult situations very well. Her love of Turkey was just enjoyable to behold.

Annick Leemart,2006

The guide was never open to any suggestion She should have open mind for any complains and it should not be against the person/s who made that complains.

Leo Leemart,2006

Derya was wonderful and truly special. If there was an answer she didn't know, she'd find out. She was much more accessible than previous guides and made an effort to know my name and talk to me. She arranged for a transfer to our next hotel at the end of the trip. Such a thoughtful gesture on her part. She handled some difficult situations very well and professionally.

Michael in Everett, WA, 2006

Derya knows a great deal but is more the teacher than the tour guide. Her demeanor is better suited to a classroom. She was helpful in post-tour planning and made herself very available.

Marilyn Terrano,2006

The guide was defensive about Turkish culture and I got the impression this caused her to be condescending to some members of the group when they asked her questions.

Bernia Terrano,2006

Wonderful guide. Truly made a "good" tour a "terrific" one!!!

Douglas in Langley, WA, 2006

She was passionate about Turkey and she made me want to learn more about her country.

Jackie in Seattle, WA, 2006

Derya has a love of the history and relayed that to us. I appreciated her enthusiam.

Arnold in Golden Valley, MN, 2006

Derya "made" our travel in Turkey. She met our every need as well as being very knowledgeable about her country. We felt so very fortunate to have her as our guide. We loved her enthusiasm about Asia Minor.

Douglas Bennedeth,2006

I wish you had something higher than outstanding to choose from. As some have already mentioned, she is truly a national treasure. The information she gave us throughout the whole tour was just incredible. I can't believe all the knowledge she gave us on her much loved Turkey. I always felt extremely well taken care of with her any time of day or night. One night I was staying in, feeling a bit puny and she blew me a kiss to get better. It was very sweet. Thank you Derya. You were the best!!!

Carlos in Vallejo, CA, 2006

Derya was outstanding in all respects. We could not have had a better guide, nor Turkey a better ambassador.

Bella in Sacramento, CA, 2006

I absolutely have to speak in superlatives about Derya. It was mind-boggling that Derya has expertise in every area; plus she was kind, fair, magically made every situation workable for everyone; so thoughtful and considerate of everyone---above and beyond the expectations one could fairly ask---but each time she was above and beyond---and besides all that, I just plain liked her for herself.

Matthew in Glenview, IL2006

Derya is a charming, enlightened, highly intelligent lead guide. Her patriotism, and concern for civil rights and equality in Turkey made us all care.

Bernie in Woodland Hills, CA, 2006

Derya is the light of the light. a national treasure.

Susie in Waimanlo, HI, 2006

Derya was super she had great knowlwedge and was driven to be sure that we were happy and comfortable.

Donald in Calgary, AB, 2006

Derya was outstanding. Some of us began to refer to her as a national treasure and we felt so grateful to have her as our lead guide. She gave more than 100% of herself on the tour. Sometimes the instructions for stopping were not entirely clear and this was partly due to us getting advance instructions sometime mixed in with the more relevant immediate instructions. However, when we asked, Derya immediately clarified.

Denise in Seattle, WA, 2006

Derya was always up and ready. She was a great resource not only for information but if we had a problem she always found a solution. She was so enthusiastic and obviously loved her country.

Lee in Shelby Township, MI, 2006

Derya was friendly to me, but sometimes she wasn't the most patient person.

Tom in Flushing, NY, 2006

Bob in New York, NY, 2006

Derya was perfect in every way.She instilled in me a new interest in history. I learned so much from her.

Julie in Auburn, WA, 2006

Would take another trip with Derya anytime, anywhere, no question about it. She was well prepared and very enthusiastic about her home country, Turkey. When talking with the group all ears were with her! Derya was well poised when the need arose to explain the cultural differences, and customs that were important to the group.

Matt in Auburn, WA, 2006

Absolutely loves what she does. Also, very good at sharing the hisotry, etc. of the country
